Precipitation efficiency constraint on climate change

چکیده
Precipitation efficiency (PE) relates cloud condensation to precipitation and intrinsically binds atmospheric circulation the hydrological cycle. Due PE’s inherent microphysical dependencies, definitions estimates vary immensely. Consequently, sensitivity greenhouse warming implications for climate change are poorly understood. Here, we quantify role in by defining a simple index ϵ as ratio of surface condensed water path. This macroscopic metric is reconcilable with PE measures higher associated stronger mean Walker circulation. We further find that state-of-the-art models disagree on sign magnitude future changes. disagreement originates from models’ convective parameterizations. Critically, increasing under warming, line cloud-resolving simulations, show greater slowdown large-scale Hadley circulations two-fold increase extreme rainfall than decreasing ϵ. Falling raindrops play an essential but as-yet unquantified planetary change. Here authors use concept establish critical predicting tropical precipitation.

Precipitation Extremes Under Climate Change
The response of precipitation extremes to climate change is considered using results from theory, modeling, and observations, with a focus on the physical factors that control the response. Observations and simulations with climate models show that precipitation extremes intensify in response to a warming climate. However, the sensitivity of precipitation extremes to warming remains uncertain w...
متن کاملChanges in precipitation with climate change
There is a direct influence of global warming on precipitation. Increased heating leads to greater evaporation and thus surface drying, thereby increasing the intensity and duration of drought. However, the water holding capacity of air increases by about 7% per 1°C warming, which leads to increased water vapor in the atmosphere. Hence, storms, whether individual thunderstorms, extratropical ra...
متن کاملAssessing the climate change effects on Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), case study: Latian dam
Studying climate change and its effect on the intensity and frequency of drought can help the proper use of water resources and adaptation to the destructive effects of the drought phenomenon in the future decades. In recent decades, rising global temperatures have disturbed the planetchr('39')s climate balance and caused widespread climate change in most parts of the world. This research trie...
متن کاملEffects of climate change on water use efficiency in rain-fed plants
Water use efficiency (WUE) reflects the coupling of the carbon and water cycles and is an effective integral trait for assessing the responses of vegetated ecosystems to climate change. In this study, field experiments were performed to examine leaf WUE (WUEleaf) in response to changes in CO2 concentration and other environmental variables, including soil moisture and air temperature. We al...
متن کاملClimate change scenarios for temperature and precipitation in Aragón (Spain).
By applying a two-step statistical downscaling technique to four climate models under different future emission scenarios, we produced future projections of the daily precipitation and the maximum and minimum temperatures over the Spanish region of Aragón. The reliability of the downscaling technique was assessed by a verification process involving the comparison of the downscaled reanalysis da...
